Chicken (Chiquita) Little!

Hallloooo All!
The weather has turned quite nice in the last few days.  Cool but not cold.  Perfect for the full-figured Diva!  Not much in the way of news to pass.  Poppi and Mummi have been busy going about the business that is life.  Mummi has been a bit under the weather but now seems to be on the road to recovery. But there is one funny little incident that I would like to share......
With the cooler weather the leaves are starting to fall, along with the acorns from the oak in our front yard.  One evening Poppi had taken little sis and I out to do our business.  (Let me interrupt this story to say the Chiquita is doing much, much better with this now.  Accidents are coming much further apart.)  AnnnnyyyWaayyy....  I had finished and was nosing around the area when l'il sis assumed the position to do her business.  She was squeezing mightily and the little brown banana was about two-thirds of the way to the ground when an acorn fell and hit her on her back.  All at the same time, she yelped, jumped and pffftttt - the 'nanner disappeared.  And not on the ground.  Eeewwwww! (I nearly cried when I rolled over laughing.)  When she calmed down and realized what had happened, she composed herself, re-assumed the position (away from the tree) and did a re-dump.  That's RIGHT! She pooped the same log twice.   I know. I know.  But trust me, as disgusting as it sounds, it was funny.
Hugs, Kisses, and Belly Rubs for all!

Happy Birthday to Me!

Hello my lovelies!  After a long ( about 6 weeks) absence, I finally persuaded Poppi that I needed to get my presence back out there.  So - on to some catching up. Poppi and Mummi were understandably distracted with the arrival of the latest litter birth of their granddaughter, Savannah Sue, down in Florida.  While I understand their wanting to go down and visit the latest member of the family, I'm still a bit peeved that "moi" was left behind with a sitter.  I mean, I can understand Big Sis staying, she's a big girl and I can understand leaving little sis, she's still acclimating and getting trained.  But I am well trained and a proven traveler - I mean, really, I went all the way to Wisconsin (and back) with them once and had no accidents.  Hmmph!  However, I choose to take it that they had confidence in me watching over the other two and the homestead in their absence.
As the title indicates, today is my birthday.  In human years, I am 3.  I was born on this date in 2010.  At that time Poppi was still recovering from a bad accident, and I am proud to say that I was instrumental in his recovery.  While I was a mere youngster then, I did give him lots of TLC.  I know I won't see Poppi until late this evening as he is going to the local high school football game, but I fully expect him to treat me to the last piece of meatloaf from the fridge as a present (hint!hint!).  Poppi is a pretty good cook.
I'll try to get Poppi back to helping me with regular entries, but that's all for now.
Hugs, Kisses, and Belly Rubs for all!

Chillin' with Chiquita

Tug-O-War with Lil Sis
Halloooo my lovelies!
Life continues to be good for "moi" and my little sis, Chiquita.  She is just a baby and poppi and mumi are working hard to get her conditioned to doing her "business" outside.  She is successful about half the time, but doesn't fully understand that doing it inside does stress them a bit.  When we go out, I make a point of showing her the proper way to do things, but she is at that A.D.D. age.  Preferring to run and investigate - EVERYTHING.  I know she will grasp it eventually, but all must have patience.  After all - she just turned 5 months old this week (on Aug. 21st).
Big Sis is doing okay, but moving slow.  This is understandable though since she turned 12 on August 11th.  She is the "Grand Dame" of the home and I overheard Poppi say that if she was human (shudder!) she would be 84 years old.   A grand lady!
Poppi is excited for some reason - bees?, hornets? wasps?  YELLOWJACKETS! That's it.  Something about them playing with the football tonight for the first time this year.  I don't grasp it, but if it makes him happy - its good enough for me.  I'm more excited about the fact that he will be grilling out before leaving for the game.  Chance for "goody drops" - ya know. Yummy! That's it for now.
Hugs, Kisses, and Belly Rubs for all!

Sunday

I've said it before...................

Me and Chiquita!

..........and I'll say it again.  "Good Help is hard to find.  It's been a month since my last entry, but it has not been uneventful.

On July 3rd, Mummi and Poppi presented me with a new little sis, and she is tiny.  While just my mom was a Chihuahua, evidently both of her parents were.  Chiquita is 4 months old today and weighs 3 whole pounds, soaking wet!  She is a cutie, but sooooo energetic.  I mean, I like to play as much as the next girl, but this little bundle of dynamite wears me out.  She zips, careens and bounces around like crazy.  Barring the occasional faux pax, she is pretty well behaved.  When we got to bed, Poppi can put his arm around her and say "time to go to sleep" and she usually responds by laying down beside him and closing her eyes.

Is this Diva worried?  No!  She knows who is in charge and will quickly back off when I let her know I'm through playing.  I think she is a fine addition to our household.
Til next time, "Hugs, Kisses, and Belly rubs for all!"

Friday

It wasn't a train whistle!

Hello my bu-bees!
Here in the magnolia state, it is hot.  And we are just beginning the summer.  The warmest days are still a couple of months away.  This dark-coiffed diva is not looking forward to it!
Okay!  I have to share this little slice of real life with you.  It was early (3-ish) one morning and I was sleeping behind Poppi's knees.  I felt Mummi getting out of bed, but I was still pretty much asleep.  All of a sudden there was this high pitched screech or whistle.  It went on for a good twenty or thirty seconds. Stopped. And then was punctuated with a short brrrpp!  My sensitive schnozz was abruptly assaulted.  It smelled as if the sewers of Satan had been dumped on my head.  My eyes began to tear and I was gasping for fresh air.  I struggled mightily, finally clawed clear of the covers, and tossed my head from side-to-side.  I took a couple of deep, fresh breaths and noticed a couple of things.   Mummi was standing beside the bed, grinning like a Cheshire cat at my struggles, and Poppi was still asleep.  I was wondering how this was possible when I realized that Poppi was responsible! For the noise and the smell! And in his sleep!  Life is so unfair sometimes.  If I did that they would make me go outside so that I could finish my business.  Poppi didn't even wake up.  Sigggghhhh! Such is a Diva's fate!
Hugs, kisses, and belly rubs for all!

Thursday

Just Another Day in Paradise

Hello my Sweeties!  Glad you could make it back for another dish from the diva.
I'm very happy to say that there hasn't been too much drama going on.  The weather is getting warmer and there's the usual mumblings from Poppi that he needs to get out and mow. Big Sis and I are trying to stay inside (with that Mah-va-Lousssss AC) since we both have dark coats and tend to heat up in the sun.  Big Sis stays out more than I do, be even she doesn't lay out in the sun.  Recently she prefers the shade on the front deck.
It strikes me as kind of funny that Mummi, Big Sis and I can be panting, tongues out and very warm and Poppi will have on socks, sweats and a knit cap on because he's cold.  So I asked Big Sis about it, and she said it was something in his jeans.
I snapped back, "I thought the only thing in his jeans was Mummi".  UH-HUH. OH Yeah!  I went there!   After all, I will be 21 (in Canine years) on my next birthday.
Big Sis just rolled her eyes and spelled "G*E*N*E*S*". (Yes, dogs can spell.  Especially V*E*T*).  It just means that his mother and grandparents were "warm natured", or to say it another way, did not take the cold well.
Mummi & Poppi are good natured about it.  Poppi always tells Mummi its easy for him just to throw something on and stay comfortable.  He just wants her (& me & Sis) to be comfortable too.
Poppi's youngest son and his wife (the one that's expecting a litter - emmm - baby, sorry I tend to think in canine terms) are coming for a visit next week.  Poppi and Mummi are both looking forward to that.  That's about all I have for now.
Hugs, Kisses and Belly Rubs for ALL!

History tells us

Chiweenie.  Really.  This Diva is not amused.  Since I like dear old dad, let me quote that master source reference (snicker): Wikipedia.  The dachshund (UK /ˈdæksənd/ or US /ˈdɑːkshʊnt/ DAHKS-huunt or US /ˈdɑːksənt/;[2]) is a short-legged, long-bodied dog breed belonging to the hound family. The standard size dachshund was bred to scent, chase, and flush out badgers and other burrow-dwelling animals, while the miniature dachshund was developed to hunt smaller prey such as rabbits

Note "long bodied" - If I stood upright I'd be a model.  Also - the miniature was developed to chase rabbits - So a "fast" woman.  (Mom certainly was.)  Mom was the Chihuahua side of my history and (according to Wikipedia again) is the smallest breed of dog and there is historical evidence of Chihuahuas at least 1400 years before the first Europeans showed up on North American shores.

Hmm - maybe mom wasn't a fast woman.  Maybe dad was just an aggressive European.    Regardless, I find the term "Chiweenie" a little demeaning.  Try to say it without a smirk on your face.  SEE - you can't do it.  So I've been giving it some thought.  What about Doxiwawa.  Not quite as cutesie and, according to Wiki again - I am a "designer" breed.  Much more classy sounding.

Mwwwaaahhh!

Hugs, Kisses, and Belly Rubs for all!
